Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snøoverflata er våt i lavlandet og fuktig høyt til fjells etter siste dagers mildvær. Med synkende mildværsgrense og nedbør vil det kunne legge seg nysnø nedover mot tregrensa utover dagen.

I overgangen mellom gammel fuktig snø og snø fra siste to uker har det dannet seg et skarelag. Høy temperaturgradient gjør at det lokalt har dannet seg kantkorn rundt dette. Utviklingen og egenskapene virkar å variere, og enkelte stedar kan det påvirkes, men de fleste stedar er korna små eller ikke utviklet nok til å utgjøre et skredproblem.

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l Saturday night. Gale from southwest, changing to gale from the west during the afternoon. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 8. May 2022

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Moderate gale from west, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the afternoon. -8 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Lavere temperaturer, mye vind og nedbør som snø i fjellet, gjør at fokksnøproblematikken opprettholdes. Fokksnøflakene vil være lette å påvirke for skiløpere eller scooterførere, og skred kan bli store etter siste dagers snøfall i fjellet. I enkelte heng som får mest pålagring av fokksnø kan man ikke utelukke at det går naturlig utløste store skred. Skredfaren avtar utover dagen med minkende vind og snøfall.
